After we upgraded to Exchange 2010 SP2 we experienced that sending mail to mail-enabled public folders no longer was working. Users got following NDR #554 5.2.0 STOREDRV.Deliver.Exception:ObjectNotFoundException; Failed to process message due to a permanent exception with message The Active Directory user wasn’t found. ObjectNotFoundException: The Active Directory user wasn’t found. ##
We migrated from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010 a long time ago. And the uninstallation of Exchange 2003 was actually done the “correct” way. But the solution shows that there still is some old stuff that needs to be cleaned up.
Solution: Remove the Servers container from the old Exchange 2003 Administrative Group. (Don’t do this if you have Exchange 2003 servers aliveJ )
- Run ADSIEDIT
- CN=Configuration, CN=Services, CN=Microsoft Exchange, CN=[YourExchangeOrganisationName], CN=Administrative Groups, CN=[LegacyAdministrativeGroupName], CN=Servers.
- Delete the Servers container by right click and select delete.
In my case the mail was delivered right after the Servers container was deleted.
