I recently had an issue when using Vmware Workstation 10 on Windows 8.1. The mouse would jump in and out of the VM constantly while in window mode. When switching to full screen the mouse did not behave as expected. When I dragged window inside the VM it would end up somewhere else then where I released it. It felt like the mouse pointer was not aligned. This problem only occured if had an external monitor also attached. The VM I had trouble with was running Kali Linux. I tried a lot of things and almost googled myself to death trying to figure this out. I tried to re-install vmware tools inside the VM. I tried to re-install Kali. I tried to use the “apt-get install open-vm-toolbox” instead of vmware tools. I also tried a lot of different mouse and display options. The one thing that solved this strange problem was actually to change compability options on vmware.exe on the host. Adding the “disable display scaling on high DPI settings”.
I hope this helps someone having the same annoying problem.
