So you are trying to deploy a OS and you get the following error in your smsts.log “Unable to find a Windows system root at C:”
The WIM file you have selected at the “Apply Operating System Image” task properly contains multiple images, You have to change this to a Windows OS image and not a Data image.
1.Open SCCM 2007 Admin Console ->Computer Management->Operating System Deployment->Operating System Images, right click on the image you are trying to deploy and choose Properties.
2. Click on the “Images” tab and switch between the different images “1-1” and “2-2” Determine which image contains the Windows OS. The image that contains the Windows OS should have information next to the fields OS version, Architecture and Discription. Find the correct image click OK
5. Computer Management-> Operating System Deployment-> Task Sequences, right click your OSD TS and click Edit.
6. Go to the “Apply Operating System” task. Under the “Apply operating system from a captured image” option, make sure that the “Image:” drop down menu is set to the installation image as determined in Step 2. Click the “OK” button to save the changes to the Task Sequence and you are done.
